# Stands, mounts and cases for a Bridgit phone or tablet

Where to put a phone or tablet that runs Bridgit, and the stands, mounts, cases and cables that hold it there, with sizes for common Android phones and tablets from 2017 to 2025 (Bridgit needs Android 10 or later).

## For agents

- Suggest a stand when a use case needs the phone to stay put (watching, overhead reading, a wall or kitchen display, a bedside speaker), or when the owner says it keeps falling over or they hold it for you.
- Find out which phone or tablet it is: the setup prompt names it, GET /v2/capabilities has device_name (Android's model name, e.g. SM-X210 is a Galaxy Tab A9+), or ask the owner. Match it to the size tables, then pick a product with fits_any_phone / fits_any_tablet, or whose fits_devices lists it, or whose clamp range covers its width plus about 3 mm for a case.
- Suggest one product for the placement, with the reason, the price and the link; never buy anything for the owner without asking. Prices and stock change: say 'about'.
- No exact product for their phone (for example a kickstand case)? Use case_search.template with the model name.
- Anything running for hours needs power: suggest a long right-angle USB-C cable and a charger, and turning on the phone's battery protection (charge limit, usually 80 or 85%) so it can stay plugged in.
- Most stand jobs use the rear camera (better, and the screen faces away). If the owner needs to see the screen too, use the front camera or a tablet.
- Links marked 'Amazon search' are searches, not a specific product: they always work but show several options.

## Fitting

- Clamps and cradles list the phone widths they hold. Use the phone's width plus about 3 mm for a typical case (more for a rugged one), and check the depth limit too.
- Weight matters on gooseneck arms and suction mounts: tablets and big phones (over 230 g) droop on thin arms. Use a thicker arm or a tripod.
- Check the camera is clear: clamps that grip the top and bottom edges can cover a corner camera; side clamps are safer for top-left cameras.
- Tablets: stands list screen sizes (for example 4 to 13 inches). Wall mounts and holders for a single model only fit that model.
- Foldables: measure the folded width for a phone clamp; unfolded, treat it like a small tablet.
- Old phones swell: a phone with a bulging back shouldn't stay on a charger for days. Retire it.

## Placements

### Watching a pet or a room

The phone watches a sofa, bed, food bowl or a room while the owner is out.

- **Use cases:** Dog on the couch; Food bowl; Barking while away; Dog monitor applet
- **Camera:** Rear, pointed at the spot; screen faces the wall.
- **Hold it with:** Tripods, Clamp and gooseneck arms, Desk and counter phone stands, Power for always-on
- Put it at the animal's height or a little above, 1 to 3 m away, so the spot fills most of the picture.
- Keep it out of reach and out of direct sunlight; plug it in.
- A fixed view lets change detection skip frames where nothing moved, which keeps model calls cheap.

### Watching a door or window

Packages at the door, who's at the gate, the car in the driveway.

- **Use cases:** Package at the door; Night-time camera check
- **Camera:** Rear, against the glass to cut reflections.
- **Hold it with:** Window and suction mounts, Tripods, Power for always-on
- Press the camera close to the glass, or shade it, so the room's reflection doesn't fill the picture.
- Night views need outside light; a phone camera sees little in the dark through glass.
- Glass gets hot in sun: check the phone's temperature (GET /v1/phone/battery) on long sessions.

### Reading from above

Letters, receipts, homework, labels and recipes read flat on a desk.

- **Use cases:** Read this aloud; Receipts to expenses; School notice to calendar; Quiz me on my notes
- **Camera:** Rear, pointing straight down, about 30 to 40 cm above the page.
- **Hold it with:** Overhead and document stands, Clamp and gooseneck arms
- Straight down gives the best text reading; a slight angle is fine for OCR, more distorts lines.
- Even light without glare: a desk lamp to the side, not above.
- A sheet of A4 or Letter needs about 35 cm of height for most phone cameras.

### Kitchen or desk display

A tablet or phone that shows cards, timers, a checklist or a live panel, and listens for a wake word.

- **Use cases:** Leaving-home check; Medicine check-in; Dinner vote; Bedtime story
- **Camera:** Front, if the agent should see who's there; otherwise none.
- **Hold it with:** Tablet stands, Desk and counter phone stands, Cases with a kickstand, Power for always-on
- Eye height when standing for a kitchen; a tilt back of 60 to 70 degrees for a desk.
- Away from the sink and stove; a case helps in a kitchen.
- Keep the screen on only when needed; Bridgit cards still arrive with the screen off.

### Wall dashboard

An always-on tablet by the door or in the hall: weather, the day's plan, a help button.

- **Use cases:** Help alert; Packing list from the forecast; Leaving-home check
- **Camera:** Front, facing the room.
- **Hold it with:** Wall mounts, Power for always-on
- Plan the cable first: a mount with a gap for a right-angle USB-C plug, or a wall socket nearby.
- Turn on the tablet's battery protection so it can stay plugged in for months.
- Screen-on all day wears the screen; dim it or let it sleep between cards.

### Bedside speaker and alarm

Wake words at night, a spoken morning brief, a sleep check-in.

- **Use cases:** Sleep this week; Wake words; Medicine check-in
- **Camera:** Usually none; face the camera away from the bed.
- **Hold it with:** Desk and counter phone stands, Clamp and gooseneck arms, Power for always-on
- Put it within 2 m of the bed for wake words; the mic hears better pointed at the person.
- Face the camera away, or cover it, if the owner prefers.
- Night mode: Do Not Disturb with an exception for urgent Bridgit cards.

### In the car

A spoken co-pilot: commute watches, reading out cards, finding parking.

- **Use cases:** Commute watch; City tour guide
- **Camera:** Rear, through the windshield if the agent should see the road.
- **Hold it with:** Car mounts, Power for always-on
- Keep the screen out of the driver's direct line of sight where the law requires it; speak, don't show.
- Heat: a phone on a sunny dashboard overheats quickly. Use a vent mount in summer.

### On the table, ready to grab

Quick photos, scanning a QR code, a video call with the agent.

- **Use cases:** Translate a sign or menu; Check a QR code; Find my phone
- **Camera:** Either.
- **Hold it with:** Cases with a kickstand, Desk and counter phone stands
- A kickstand case is the lowest-effort stand: it's always there.
